The TU-fast-racing-team is a student initiative of the Technical University Munich founded in 2002. To practically apply theoretical study contents under realistic conditions and also out of a passion for motorsports, the students design, develop and construct a racing car powered by an electric motor and a racing car powered by autonomous systems in an annual rhythm. In developing the prototypes, the team of budding engineers and economists focuses intensively on innovations and future technologies. Thus they take a pioneering role in the field of the mobility of the future. Doing so the highly motivated young team is able to act as a modern racing team in professional motorsport with its accounting department, a marketing department, a technical unit, and a team of drivers. Thanks to the great commitment and team spirit on the part of the students the team is able to compete with great success in the international Formula Student competitions.
The Formula Student was founded in 1979 by several professors in the USA. This project allowed students to test their learned skills in a practical way within the framework of an exciting team project. Since 1999, the competition has also been held in Europe. Since then, the popularity of the student racing series has continued to grow. Today, the project contains over 800 globally participating teams and hosts 15 competitions each year. Enabled by its rising profile and popularity, the Formula Student has become a springboard for up-and-coming talented leaders. As a result, many former Formula Student members are now working in leadership positions. Sometimes even in the world of motorsports, for example in the Formula 1 team of NASCAR and WRC.
The core aspect of Formula Student is the design and construction of racing cars by the respective teams according to official specifications. This process requires annual repetition, especially since new machines have to be built every year according to renewed rules. Furthermore, the project is to be emphasized by the necessary personal responsibility of the participants. This includes especially coordination and cooperation of the students. Thus, students from numerous disciplines work together in the TU-racing-team to master challenges such as financing, application, and logistics in a coordinated manner in addition to conception and construction.
In recent years, the TU-fast-racing-team has distinguished itself as one of the most successful and respected in the world. Through excellently coordinated teamwork and extraordinary expertise, the students achieved overall victory in the competition in Australia in 2018, and overall victories in the Formula Student Austria, Formula Student Germany, Formula Student Spain, and Formula Student East competitions in 2019. Since January 2020, the TU-fast-racing-team is ranked number 1 in the world rankings. Furthermore, in 2020 the team achieved victory in the Formula Student online competition.
In the field of Formula Student, we support several ambitious teams on a donation basis, including the TU-fast-racing-team. On request, we supply the students with various wires and cables free of charge, which they then assemble into cable harnesses for usage in their racing cars. In an advisory and donating capacity, we support the TU-fast-racing team with shrink and braided tubing. This is especially important in the area of heat protection to for example safeguard the area of the electric motor. This way fire development can be prevented in the event of an accident. We also supply students with our superior Kevlar alternatives free of charge for crash protection. This way, GREMCO can support ambitious upcoming leaders. In turn, they may carry the quality of our products as well as our expertise into the working world.
