Within GREMCO’s wide product portfolio of wires and cables, coaxial cables represent a specialty. Accordingly, these are bipolar cables, consisting of an inner and an outer conductor. The construction of the product is concentric. Consequently, the inner conductor, sometimes called the “core”, is surrounded by the hollow-cylindrical outer conductor at a constant distance. In this way, the outer conductor shields the inner conductor from electromagnetic interference. An insulator fills the resulting gap, called the dielectric. In our coaxial cables, the dielectric is an extruded tube from FEP, PTFE, or other foamed plastics. For protection against external influences, the outer conductor (shield) is covered by a plastic jacket (extruded or wrapped) providing excellent protection against chemical, mechanical or thermal stresses.
Owing to their excellent electrical properties, our high-quality coaxial cables are ideally designed for application in the high-frequency range up to gigahertz frequencies. Thus, reliable, accurate, and efficient signal transmission is possible in this demanding frequency range. The inner conductor is used for signal transmission, while the surrounding shielding layers prevent any signal losses (also called attenuation) by helping to reduce electromagnetic interference. Meanwhile, the dielectric maintains the distance between the main conductor and the outer layers. The next layers, collectively called shielding, keep out electrical interference and radio transmissions. In addition, the outer sheath provides excellent protection against chemical, mechanical and thermal influences. The inner conductor, normally made from silver-plated copper, could be constructed as a flexible stranded conductor as well as a rigid single wire. Other advantages of our coaxial cables include:
GREMCO’s coaxial cables are optimized for high-frequency applications where the electronic system has to be matched with the corresponding cable. The main areas of application are primarily aerospace and defense equipment. Here, for example, the coaxial cables are used for signal transmission in RADAR- and navigation systems. In accordance with the specific requirements of the aviation industry, we provide specially adapted cables with particularly small dimensions and consequently very low weight. In addition, our coaxial cables are certified to MIL-standard C-17. Furthermore, our Cables are also widely used in commercial applications such as cell phone transmission towers, medical ultrasound equipment, and naval sonar systems.
